Mother in court on truancy charge
ensuring a child gets to school.
Denise E. Mayho, 36, of Lapsley Lane, Sandys pleaded not guilty yesterday to "failure to secure regular attendence at school'' for her two children between 29 October and December 17.
To be tried on June 27, Mayho is the first person to face a charge under the new Education Act amendment for truancy officers.
She told Senior Magistrate William Francis: "I plead not guilty. I sent them off to school.'' POLICEMAN ATTACKED CRM Policeman attacked A Police officer was wounded by a pit bull terrier on Thursday night as he attempted to search a suspect in Sandys.
The officer was responding to a report of drug activity at Cambridge Courts around 7.30 p.m. and upon arriving saw a male attempting to leave the area and enter his residence.
The man refused to stop when requested and entered an area where the dog was housed.
The dog then attacked the officer as he attempted to pursue the suspect, and was only dislodged from his leg after causing a serious open wound to the calf.
The officer was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and detained.
The suspect was not apprehended.

Nicholas Giovanni DeRosa, 19, of Granaway Lane, Southampton, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug before Senior Magistrate Will Francis on Friday.
DeRosa had been picked up by plain clothes Policemen in Rockaway Drive, Southampton on June 26 last year.
A search of his pockets revealed an envelope containing seven bags of cannabis.
