In a statement the Muslim Community of Cedar Avenue said it supported the democratic process Bermudians were being called upon to take part in.

"The majority of us support Independence, totally governing ourselves and being in charge of our own destiny,'' said the statement.

"We have seen fit to include abstention as an option for those Muslims who are so inclined, agreeing that it is a legitimate option. We conclude that whatever the outcome, the exercise is good for Bermudam,'' it added.

GOVT. REPLENISHED VACCINE SUPPLY GVT Govt. replenishes vaccine supply A new stock of the vaccine Pedvax, which was in short supply last month, has arrived on the Island.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Cann said the vaccine -- which protects children against the haemophilus influenza bacteria that can cause meningitis -- was distributed to doctors throughout the Island and was in supply at Government's Hamilton Health Centre on Victoria Street.

Last month the Island ran out of Pedvax, prompting a concerned mother to complain to The Royal Gazette .

And in January paediatricians expressed concern that stocks imported by the Ministry of Health and distributed to physicians were running low.

TODDLER LOCKED IN TOY HANDCUFFS POL Toddler locked in toy handcuffs Police officers had to use bolt cutters to free a toddler from a pair of toy handcuffs.

Officers received the call on Sunday evening, Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Wilcox said.

Police arrived at a Sandys residence to find a three-year-old boy with a pair of toy handcuffs on his right ankle.

They used bolt cutters to free the boy who, Sgt. Wilcox said, was none the worse for the experience.

TRIED TO INTERVENE AND GOT BEAT UP CRM Tried to intervene and got beat up Two men assaulted a Hamilton Parish man who tried to break up a fight, Police reported yesterday.

A Police spokesman said the man was attacked on Coney Island around 2 p.m. on Sunday, the day after his peace-making attempt.

One of the attackers, who included a man involved in the fight, had a machete and used it to smash the windscreen of the man's truck.

The matter is under investigation.

MAN ASSAULTED ON WAY OUT OF CLUB CRM Man assaulted on way out of club Police are investigating a report that a Devonshire man was assaulted as he left a Court Street nightclub early yesterday morning.

The man said he knew the man who attacked him with a stick, causing injury to his arm.

He said as he got into his car his attacker continued the assault causing an unspecified amount of damage to the vehicle.

HOMELESS MAN JAILED SIX MONTHS CTS Homeless man jailed six months A resident of the Salvation Army shelter was last week sentenced to six months in prison for breaking into a jewellery store and stealing several watches.

Sinclair Lewis Fox, 47, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Thursday to breaking and entering Vera P. Card Limited on Water Street in St. George's and stealing five watches worth $445 in total.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police were patrolling Water Street on August 7 at 5.45 a.m. when they noticed a broken showcase at the Vera P. Card Limited.

Fox was arrested the next day on Court Street in Hamilton.

POLICE WARN OF STOLEN CHEQUES CRM Police warn of stolen cheques Police are advising merchants to lookout for stolen cheques in the names of Dr. Ann Guthrie and S.M. Davis.

The cheques were stolen last Friday evening, Police said, and several have been successfully passed in Hamilton city.
