New Head Librarian appointed
has announced the appointment of a new Head Librarian.
Long time Library staffer C. Joanne Brangman took up the $78,253-to-$84,236-a-year post on Monday.
As Head Librarian, Ms Brangman is principal advisor on all library matters to the Minister of Education and will report to the Permanent Secretary.
Her duties also include administering the main library at Queen Street, the youth department on Church Street, and the mobile library.
Since September, Ms Brangman has been acting head of the library's 23 staff.
Last year, Grace Rawlins left the post to join the Development, Opportunity, and Government Services Ministry as director of Community and Cultural Affairs.
Earlier this year the library was transferred to the Education Ministry, from the Development and Opportunity Ministry.
Ms Brangman, who started at the National Library as an after school volunteer, first joined the staff full-time as a library assistant in 1982.
She later gained a Masters Degree in Library Science from Atlanta University in 1984, re-joining the staff as an assistant reference librarian.
In 1985 Ms Brangman became circulation librarian, a position she has held ever since.
Ms Brangman has assisted in the library's youth department, and as circulation librarian coordinated the establishment of the mobile library.
She has completed a management development programme for library administrators at Miami University and Government's Personnel Services' senior management development course.
