Only one change was made to the National Liberal Party's executive council following internal elections at its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday night, said party chairman Charles Jeffers.

He told The Royal Gazette yesterday that honourary Austrian consul Leopold Kuchler was elected as a member-at-large.

Speculation had risen that former NLP leader Gilbert Darrell might challenge for Mr. Jeffers' position but this was not the case. There were no other challenges made, said Mr. Jeffers. "All the other members were re-elected.'' He added: "We had quite an upbeat meeting. We will get together again on Monday and continue with our election strategy. We have been working on it on and off for some time.'' Topics of discussion will include the candidate issue, said Mr. Jeffers.

Some candidates were already confirmed, other potential candidates were still making a decision about whether they would run or not and further possible candidates were being sought, he said.

Mr. Jeffers stressed: "We are not intending to contest for 40 seats. One of our primary goals that we must tackle is in which constituencies we should place candidates.''
