the Fire Department's Hamilton headquarters beginning this week.

Chilren and adults are invited to see what goes on behind the scenes as part of a two-week fire awareness programme.

Displays and videos will be on show as firefighters conduct tours around the station. They will also speak on fire safety. But appearances by Spanky the Fire Dog and a ventriloquist will ensure the tone does not get too serious.

Winners of a poster and essay competition will receive prizes at an award presentation on October 31 at the Hamilton Fire Station. Schoolchildren have used the theme of fire safety in their entries.
