Government insiders -- keen to mount a strong challenge in the constituency held by Opposition Progressive Labour Party leader Jennifer Smith and Leon (Jimmy) Williams -- said both Ms Perinchief and ex-Mayor Henry Hayward were viewed as possible targets for the UBP.

But Ms Perinchief said she was focusing on the remainder of her term as Mayor of the Old Town, adding: "I have to think about the job I'm holding now -- and when I retire, I'd like to relax a bit.'' Ms Perinchief was elected to her three-year term as Mayor last November.
