Planning permission given for new senior high school

In addition to the school Works and Engineering also requested the building of a playing field, roads, parking, relocated water truckers outlet and a sewage treatment plant.

Parking and manoeuvring spaces for 170 cars, 800 cycles will be constructed on the school property in compliance with the Bermuda Plan 1992 Planning Statement.

The Board stated "the entire site of the school shall be landscaped within three months of the issuance of a Certificate of Use and Occupancy Permit, unless the prior express permission of the Board has been obtained for an extension, and shall thereafter be maintained.

"Any trees or shrubs which are removed, which die or become seriously diseased or damaged shall be replaced by trees and shrubs of similar size and species to those originally required to be planted.'' The Board added that in the interest of visual amenity of the neighbourhood around the new school, the hereby approved wall must be faced with Bermuda stone, finished to give the appearance of Bermuda stone or plaster rendered at the time of construction.

The applicant must also obtain, from the Water Authority the requisite licence in accordance with the Water Resource Act, 1975 for the disposal of waste water.

They also must have protective fencing erected on the eastern boundary of the site to protect existing vegetation and to prevent deposition of excavated material.

Major construction is expected to begin next year. The Development Application Board also approved a draft application for Mr. Ashley Raynor who applied for the construction of six houses.

The application was for planning permission only for the subdivision and construction of the units.

Parking and manoeuvring spaces for six cars will be provided and the entire site shall be landscaped within three months of issuance of a Certificate of Use and Occupancy permit.

The Board also said that any vegetation that was damaged or diseased had to be replaced.
