Labour Party of misunderstanding and contradicting itself on several issues.

In a two-page Press release, Mr. Gibbons said: "Opposition Leader Mr.

(Frederick) Wade has done his best to position his party as a middle of the road business party.

"Indeed, with fund raising efforts now a reality, Mr. Wade claimed in a full page advertisement that his party would `allow' the country's leading businessmen, local and international, to continue to create wealth and employment for Bermudians.

"In his subsequent interview with The Royal Gazette , he states that it is time to replace the UBP, Front Street merchants and big institutions with PLP government. Can we assume that big institutions will not be allowed to carry on, if they are to be replaced?'' Mr. Gibbons also questioned the PLP's understanding of the economy "it seeks to control''.

He said PLP Warwick East candidate Mr. Calvin Smith seemed to believe that "with a Clinton administration raising taxes in the US, Bermuda's offshore industry would strengthen''.

"Apparently, Mr. Smith does not know that Bermuda is not a tax haven and its major international business is insurance related, which is extremely sensitive to new and existing taxes,'' Mr. Gibbons said.

He challenged the PLP to let the people of Bermuda hear more about their "plans for independence'', "understanding of international business'', and "ability to allow businesses to continue to create wealth''.

"The United Bermuda Party's record is before the people,'' Mr. Gibbons said, "and it is a record of which we are proud.''
