Police media relations spokeswoman Evelyn James Barnett said false impressions emerged on Friday after Parliamentarians expressed concern in the House of Assembly over the arrest of a man at a grave site.

Mrs. James Barnett added that Police wanted to clear up any confusion surrounding the events. She explained that a bailiff, acting on a Supreme Court civil warrant, first approached the man -- who does not currently live on the Island -- during a funeral service on Thursday.

The man asked if he could speak with some friends, but after doing so refused to go with the bailiff. Police were called to assist when it became apparent the man would not go freely.

Mrs. James Barnett emphasised that it was the legal responsibility of Police to assist bailiffs with the execution of such warrants when requested and that the venue and timing of delivering warrants was determined by the courts and not the Police.

"It is hoped that the Police role in this incident is understood and appreciated by those expressing concern,'' she said.

A clothes dryer used for towels at the Eden Beauty Salon on Reid Street apparently overheated and started the fire.

The fire was contained to the dryer and nothing else was damaged.

The couple told Police that at around 5.30 a.m. they found a man standing at the foot of the bed. The man crouched to avoid being seen and when the couple shouted at him, he ran out the sliding glass door.

A billfold containing an undisclosed quantity of cash was stolen from the room.

The culprit was described as brown-skinned, about five-feet six-inches tall, and of slight build. He was wearing either a striped or plaid long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

LONG BIRD BRIDGE FACE INSPECTION TRA GVT Long Bird Bridge faces inspection Members of the public travelling to St. George's can expect minor delays today while Long Bird Bridge undergoes an inspection.

A Government spokeswoman reported yesterday that the inspection -- being carried out jointly by Government and NASA -- began on Sunday and was expected to be completed today.

"Marine traffic will be unaffected as the bridge will continue to be open at scheduled times. However, motor traffic may experience brief delays when the bridge is opened for inspection.''
