With some 400 runners and 50 cyclists taking to the streets on Monday, Police have issued the following information -- particularly for motorists.

The Heritage Cycle Race will start at 9 a.m. just south of Gilbert Lane on Somerset Road.

From Hog Bay Level, they will be followed by the inline skaters. Most of the route of both races will be the same as the marathon derby.

However, when the competitors reach Church Street -- at the junction with Cedar Avenue -- they will turn off the marathon route and race north on Cedar Avenue to the finish line near the junction of Cedar Avenue and Angle Street.

The marathon derby will start at the junction of Cambridge and Somerset roads in Sandys Parish at 9.30 a.m.

Runners will then run south on Somerset Road, around Somerset Bridge, up Bridge Hill, and continue east on Middle Road until Burnt House Hill.

From Burnt House Hill they will travel east along Harbour Road, across The Lane, west on Crow Lane and Front Street, then up Queen Street on to Church Street.

They will travel along Church Street and turn north on King Street, west on Victoria Street, north on Cedar Avenue, east on Marsh Folly Road, south on Dutton Avenue, then into Bernard Park.

Due to the route, there will be no parking on Front Street -- from King Street to Queen Street; Reid Street -- from Court Street to Queen Street; Church Street -- from Par-La-Ville Road to King Street; King Street -- from Front Street to Victoria Street; Par-La-Ville Road -- from Church Street to Serpentine Road; Court Street -- from Front Street to Church Street; Queen Street -- from Front Street to Church Street; Cedar Avenue -- from Church Street to Victoria Street; North Street -- from Ewing Street to Two-Way Mews on Parson's Road; and Langton Hill -- from St. John's Road to North Shore Road, Pembroke.

Traffic bans will apply to all traffic except those in the cycle race, Police said.

A mini Opening Parade, with bands and some 1,000 children, will get underway at 12.15 p.m..

It will leave the Transport Control Department parking lot and travel west on North Street and turn right into Dutton Avenue into Bernard Park via the south gate.

Premier Pamela Gordon is scheduled to arrive at 12.10 p.m. for ceremonies which will last about 30 minutes.

At 2 p.m. the annual Heritage Parade will begin from Par-La-Ville Road.

Judging of entries will take place between 9 and 11 a.m.

Some 1,000 people are expected to take part in the favoured event which will wind its way from Par-La-Ville Road on to Church Street. It will turn right onto Queen Street, left on Front Street, left on Court Street, left on Church Street, right on Cedar Avenue, right into Marsh Folly Road, right on Dutton Avenue and into Bernard Park.

Police will be stationed along the entire route of the parade to ensure a smooth flow, a spokesperson said.

Roads on the route will be closed to normal traffic.

And St. John Ambulance will have a mobile ambulance and one stationed at the junction of Reid and Parliament streets.

Their First Aid tent will also be set up at Bernard Park and there will be radio contact with the ambulances.
