The jewellery is believed to be the proceeds from a spate of break-ins which have taken place in the St. David's area over the last month.

Despite efforts to locate the jewellery's owners, few of the items have been returned, a Police spokeswoman said.

Anyone who may have lost jewellery or had jewellery stolen from them, and have not reported the theft to Police, is asked to call St. George's Police Station at 297-1122.

The spokeswoman also asked parents of school-aged children to note if their child/children have inexplicably come into possession of some jewellery, possibly received from school friends, and to ascertain the origin of the jewellery and how they came to be in possession of it.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. George's Police Station or the Crimestoppers confidential hotline at 1-800-623-8477.

POLICE SEIZE DOG CRM Police seize dog Police took possession of a dog involved in a fatal attack on some chickens.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said a Radnor Estate Road, Hamilton Parish resident reported "Pitbull-type'' dogs killed his chicken and hens Wednesday morning.

The man said he returned to his home around 11 a.m. to find the dogs attacking the chickens.

He was able to chase the dogs away and managed to identify both the dogs and their owners.

Police and the dog warden visited the dogs' residence to speak to the owners.

There, a 13-year-old youth refused to cooperate and ran off with one of the suspected dogs. Police took possession of the other dog while enquiries continue.

ACE BUILDING APPROVED PLN ACE building approved Insurance giants ACE Ltd. have been given the official green light to build a new four-storey building on the old Bermudiana Hotel grounds.

Building work will begin sometime this summer, once excavation work is complete.

ACE Ltd. won approval for the project from the Development Applications Board.

And if ACE receives a building permit, construction of the rest of the building will begin in spring next year and is scheduled to be finished by summer, 2000.

The building will include a tower, roof storage, and two levels of underground parking.

ACE spokeswoman Wendy Davis Johnson said: "We are very proud of the design of the building, which incorporates traditional Bermudian architecture.'' She said the model would be unveiled to the public shortly.

STEAK HOUSE REJECTED PLN Steak house rejected Planning permission has been denied for a new steak house restaurant on Elliott Street.

Spinning Wheel nightclub owner Charles Burgess had applied to renovate a building to create the new restaurant, a one bedroom apartment and four studio apartments.

But the proposal was turned down for various reasons including the lack of floor area for the studio apartments.

Meanwhile, Adrian Crockwell was granted permission to convert two stores in St. George's into a take-out restaurant on York Street.

TRUCK DRIVER FINED CTS Truck driver fined A haulage driver was busted for having cocaine in his pocket and his truck.

Roger Allan Martin, 43, of Bayfield Road, Pembroke, was pulled over by Police on April 17 while driving on Kindley Field Road.

He was fined $250 in Magistrates' Court.

The court was told officers found a rock in a paper twist in his right jean jacket pocket and a homemade cigarette in his truck.

It was discovered the twist contained 0.75 grammes of 79 percent pure cocaine and the cigarette contained 0.03 grammes of 83 percent pure cocaine.
