The call came from Police, who are concerned with the number of crimes being committed by culprits wearing crash helmets.

And the move has been backed by Home Affairs Minister Maxwell Burgess, who believes the ban could prove a vital tool in the fight against serious crime.

The Bermuda Hotel Association has called on its members to implement a ban on crash helmets being worn in their public areas.

The move comes after a plea from Police investigating two recent robberies -- at Arnolds supermarket and Harrington Hundreds store -- where helmets were worn by culprits to hide their faces.

Mr. Burgess said: "I favour the voluntary introduction of a ban in commercial premises where significant sums of cash are held.'' He urged the Chamber of Commerce to adopt the ban.

Det. Sgt. Tracey Adams called on guest houses, hotels and businesses where large sums of money are handled, to take preventative measures to stop customers from wearing their helmets inside.
