The missiles came from onlookers who saw Dale Whitfield struggle "violently'', said Prosecutor Sgt. Cyril Plant.

Earlier, Police had seen Whitfield take part in a suspected drugs deal in Elliott Street, he added.

They discovered a pocket knife on him with traces of white powder on the blade.

Sgt. Plant told Magistrates' Court the incident occurred at 11.45 p.m. on November 23 1992.

Yesterday Whitfield, of Curving Avenue, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to obstructing Police.

The 23-year-old also faced three other charges, relating to separate incidents.

He pleaded guilty to having 0.17 grammes of coke -- of 95 percent purity -- in Elliott Street on September 23 1993.

And he admitted possessing 0.14 grammes of cannabis in Middle Town, Pembroke, in 1991.

In addition, he pleaded guilty to obstructing Police on October 24 last year -- also in Hamilton.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined him a total of $950.
