Bermuda was topped only by the Hawaii islands of Maui and Kauai in the "new-in-94'' list compiled by America's Conde Nast Traveler.

Some 30,000 subscribers to Conde Nast took part in the magazine's annual Readers' Choice poll.

Winners were announced on Sunday at the American Society of Travel Agents meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.

These included Florence, which returned to the top of the world as the best city, and the Hotel Imperial in Vienna, selected as the number one place to stay in.

Meanwhile, the latest Bermuda arrival figures showed a 2.7 percent increase in air visitors.

Some 8,675 people came here between October 31 and November 6, compared to 8,449 during the same period last year.

There was a 14.8 percent decline in visitors overall last week, however, because there were no cruise ship passengers.

So far this year, 550,776 people have visited -- 4.3 percent more than the 527,915 who came in the same period in 1993.

The number of air arrivals this year stands at 378,371, which is 1.3 percent up on last year.
