Premier unveils new national child rights committee

Children became the stars yesterday at the pronouncement of the Universal Children's Day ceremony in front of the Cabinet building. In attendance were children from schools across the Island.

Premier Jennifer Smith gave an announcement commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Conventions on the Rights of the Child. She also unveiled the new National Committee on the Rights of the Child.

"Chaired by Delaey Robinson, this committee will be charged with collecting data to produce a report on the status of children in Bermuda and preparing an action plan according to the goals set for the development, protection and survival of children,'' she said.

Premier Smith proclaimed today as Bermuda's Universal Children's Day and said she was "urging all Bermudians to affirm, support and respect all of Bermuda's children by observing the day with ceremonies and activities''.
