inquiry report and imposed a sentence of two years probation on a 19-year-old Pembroke man who admitted charges of assault, breaking and entering and stealing.

Perry Mosley Puckerin Jr., of St. Monica's Road, pleaded guilty to stealing a Bank of Butterfield cheque from his father in mid-June last year. He also admitted related forgery charges including inducing a Bank of Butterfield employee to give him $666.

Puckerin also admitted breaking and entering Quinton Binns' home in St.

George's, stealing $100, and assaulting Rajee Shaqir with others last December 17.

Police Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said that Shaqir was standing at the Hamilton Terminal bus station when he was approached by a group of youths around 5.40 p.m. Words were exchanged and Shaqir was punched in the chest.

As he defended himself, Puckerin punched him in the face. Shaqir sustained cigarette burns to his face, neck and hands as a result of the attack.

Puckerin's lawyer Ms Elizabeth Christopher said that there was a strong possibility that he could transform his behaviour by going away to school though there were issues of discipline which needed addressing.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis gave Puckerin two years probation for stealing and uttering the cheque, with the condition that he attend any counselling sessions that probation services recommended.

He also imposed another two years probation for the breaking and entering offence and another year probation for the assault. All the sentences will run concurrently.

MAN ADMITS THEFT FROM DENTAL OFFICE CTS The Senior Magistrate remanded a 34-year-old Pembroke man in Police custody yesterday after he admitted stealing from a dental office.

Charles Howard Ebbin broke into Dr. Deborah Tuzo's Reid Street office by smashing through a bathroom window opened a locked desk drawer and removed $310 before leaving the same way.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Ebbin, of Friswell's Lane, committed the offence between February 13 and 14.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked for social and psychiatric inquiries and order Ebbin to return to court on March 21 for sentencing.

MAN FINED $900 FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES CTS A 52-year-old man who was caught using a false licence plate on an auxiliary cycle was fined $900 in Magistrates' Court this week.

Clyde Ellsworth Harvey of Loyal Hill, Devonshire also admitted riding an unlicensed cycle, having no driver's licence or third party insurance and obstructing a Police officer.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that Police officers were on patrol in Hamilton on January 17 when they saw Harvey riding an auxiliary cycle.

He was stopped and as Police approached him he rode off. He dropped the cycle and ran when Police chased him.

At Hamilton Police Station, it was discovered the cycle was uninsured, and that Harvey, who did not have a driver's licence, was using a licence plate fraudulently.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Harvey $150 for each charge of having no driver's licence, an unlicensed cycle, a fraudulent licence plate and obstruction. He fined him $300 for not having insurance.

MAN STOLE FOOD BECAUSE HE WAS BROKE CTS A Pembroke man claimed yesterday he tried stealing food because he was short of money.

David Charles Burgess, 49, of Swans Bay Hill, told Magistrate the Wor.

Cheryl-Ann Mapp: "I am very sorry.'' Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said the attempted theft occurred at about 4.10 p.m. on February 4.

Management at the Esso service station in Pembroke watched Burgess as he put food in a bag, Insp Duffy told Magistrates' Court.

The items included milk, cheese, bread, a dozen eggs and bacon.

Burgess only offered to pay for some cereal, said Insp. Duffy.

Mrs. Mapp told Burgess, who had admitted attempted theft, lack of money was no excuse.

"You don't go out and steal. There is always another option.'' Mrs. Mapp adjourned the case until March 22 for a social inquiry report.

Burgess was granted $300 bail.
