Governor, Lord Waddington, will remain secret until the last minute.

The Committee for the Independence of Bermuda has drawn up a protest strategy.

But chairperson Mr. Walton Brown Jr. said details would be kept firmly under wraps until Tuesday morning.

"We want to ensure there is a smooth demonstration. We don't want to risk any disruptions by letting people know our plans in advance.'' Mr. Brown said up to 30 people would take part in the protest, which would send out a "peaceful, symbolic'' message.

"We want to tell Bermudians it is quite legitimate to ask why we are not having a Bermudian governor.'' He added: "Although our ultimate goal is to achieve independence and, therefore, have no governor, there are intermediate steps we can take, even relating to ceremonial matters.'' The committee has distributed a leaflet in advance which describes the Governor's role as a "relic from an outdated era.''
