American husband will be able to stay in Bermuda and seek employment.

Mrs. Pat Gordon Pamplin told The Royal Gazette that Immigration, who had earlier ordered her husband Dennis to leave the country, reversed its decision in a letter dated December 2.

The letter, which was sent via the mail to her lawyer Mr. Wendell Hollis, stated that Mr. Pamplin was granted permission to stay on the Island and seek employment.

But while pleased by the decision, the daughter of the late civil rights activist Dr. E.F. Gordon and sister of Youth and Sports Minister the Hon.

Pamela Gordon said she still did not understand the Ministry's reason for ordering her husband to leave.

And she warned that she would not rest until "there is equality between men and women (in Bermuda) as far as the law is concerned''.

"No Bermudian should have to go through what I have with the Ministry,'' she said.

Noting that there were complaints of her husband owing child support, Mrs.

Gordon-Pamplin said they were not reasonable since he had no work permit for the past 18 months.

She also questioned why the Ministry brought up issues about her husband that had been dealt with in 1985.

During the months that she was fighting to keep her husband here, Mrs.

Gordon-Pamplin created a Bermudian women's rights group -- The Alliance for the Protection of Rights of Bermudian Women, and she ran for election to the House of Assembly as an independent candidate in Immigration Minister the Hon.

Irving Pearman's constituency, Warwick East.

And yesterday she vowed that she would remain active in both the women's rights group and politics.

"I'm here to stay,'' she said. "I want people to realise that the average person does not have to sit back and let Government ride roughshod over them.''
