his achievements during a ten-year term as Government's top civil servant.

They also remembered several "leaders'' in the community who recently died and asked that condolences be sent to their families.

Topping that list were Hamilton Parish resident Mrs. Gladys Furbert, the mother of 11 "achievers'', and human rights activist Mrs. Margaret Carter.

Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) noted Mrs. Furbert's children included chief education officer Mr. Dean Furbert and former senator Mr. Francis Furbert.

Sen. Jerome Dill (UBP) said Mrs. Carter's effect on the community would be "felt for decades''. She had been a vigorous campaigner for disabled people.

Government leader in the Senate the Hon. Mike Winfield asked that condolences be sent to MP Mr. Sidney Stallard, whose wife Margaret recently died after a long illness.

Of Mr. Richardson, he said: "His service to this country I would venture to say was almost unparalleled. He has seen Bermuda through some tricky situations and has always been an honest broker in negotiations.'' Sen. Maxwell Burgess (UBP) called Mr. Richardson "an ideal black male model''. He said he stayed out of politics and confrontation, working for the better of all Bermuda.

Youth and Sport Minister Sen. Pam Gordon asked that congratulations be sent to three teenagers selected to help set up a Youth to Youth chapter in the British Virgin Islands.

She said Laurel Burns, Malik Showers and Holly Simons were an example of what youngsters could accomplish if they "stay on the straight and narrow''.

And Sen. Alex Scott (PLP) asked that the Senate send a message to Government MP Dr. John Stubbs wishing him a speedy recovery. He called him one of the "leading lights'' of the UBP.
