Roof wetting marks end of renovations at Harrington Sound
Harrington Sound Primary School's renovations officially ended yesterday with the traditional roof wetting ceremony.
The school was badly damaged when a fire was set by students in one of the upstairs classrooms last February.
In attendance at the ceremony yesterday were Premier Jennifer Smith, Education Minister Milton Scott, Progressive Labour Party backbencher Ottiwell Simmons and numerous other school, insurance and construction personnel.
After the ceremony and a speech thanking all those who took part in the renovations, the Premier and her entourage were taken on a tour of the school, guided by ten-year-old student Brittany Lightbourne.
They were guided around each classroom and told of the improvements that had been made.
The official opening of the school will not take place until September 8.
On that day, Primary One and Two classes will return to the infants' block at the Harrington Sound to begin regular classes.
Classes for Primary Three to Six students however will report to Devon Lane School and will be in a supervised recreational programme.
This will allow the teachers of those years to prepare their rooms at the Harrington Sound site in order to be ready for classes on September 15.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Education said: "The cooperation of all parents and guardians is appreciated.''
