School rises from the ashes
for the start of the school year.
But to enable teachers time to prepare their classrooms, some students will go to Devon Lane School for a week.
Education Minister Milton Scott yesterday inspected the Smith's Parish school which was gutted by fire in February.
He revealed that teachers will have access to their classrooms from September 4 and will be given a week to set up.
School begins on September 8. But at Harrington Sound, only children in Primary One and Primary Two will be accommodated by then.
Children in Primary Three through Primary Six will go to Devon Lane School where they will participate in planned activities for a week.
On September 15 all students will return to Harrington Sound Primary.
Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott will officially hand over the building to the Education Minister next Friday and Premier Jennifer Smith will participate in the roof wetting ceremony scheduled for the same day.
Sen. Scott praised the work of the construction company, BCM-McAlpine, after his inspection yesterday.
"The construction company have done an excellent job,'' he said.
Meanwhile three youths, who have been charged with causing the fire at the school, are scheduled to face trial on November 15 in Juvenile Court.
