Scott seeks to correct report

report which alleged that he told the Senate the UK government had asked for assistance in recruiting a new Governor.

In a press release Sen. Scott said a clear reading of the British White paper indicated that there was no reference to constitutional changes in the appointment of a Governor for overseas territories.

Sen. Scott held that his reference during the Senate's motion to adjourn last Wednesday was to a British discussion paper issued in February 1998 during a conference of overseas territories.

"This option,'' he said, "would have allowed overseas territories to have an increased say in matters pertaining to the appointment of Governors. However, it was not included in the final White Paper.''
