Seek excellence, teachers told
Bermudian.
This was disclosed at an orientation for new teachers at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Friday.
Thirty seven out of 64 new teachers are locals. The others are from North America, the UK and two are from the West Indies.
Education Minister Milton Scott welcomed the new recruits to the system at the start of their orientation programme on Friday and advised them to grow and develop professionally.
"This year is a special year as it serves as the bridge to the new Millennium,'' he said. "I urge you to use your mentors. They are here to enhance the effectiveness of your instruction. Please remember they are here to assist you.'' Sen. Scott, a former general secretary of the Bermuda Union of Teachers, ended his short address by asking the teachers to always remember the motto of the Ministry.
"Striving for excellence, every child is a winner is the motto of the Ministry of Education,'' he said. "Please keep this foremost in your mind and in the classroom.'' The orientation was also attended by staff from several different departments in the Ministry of Education as well as BUT president Anthony Wolffe.
