Senators praise debaters and The Royal Gazette

Comprised of high school students Mr. Collin Anderson, Miss Jennifer Burland, Miss Selena Mello and Mr. Nicholas Pacheco, the team came in 12th out of 19 teams at the seventh World Schools Debating Championship. It was Bermuda's best finish ever.

Meanwhile, Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) congratulated "the BBC and other companies'' for highlighting positive role models during Black History Month, while Sen. Alf Oughton (Ind) gave his praises to The Royal Gazette for recently launching its youth-oriented "Young Observer'' Page.

"I made reference in this Chamber to the need for more positive coverage some time ago,'' Sen. Oughton said. "It's nice to see that some suggestions are being listened to.'' Among the people that Sen. Gary Pitman (Ind) sent messages to were a number of recent long-service award winners, including Works and Engineering employees Mr. Vincent Thompson, Mr. Howard Romaine and Mr. Hughie Smith. They have worked for the Ministry for 46, 41 and 40 years respectively.

Sen. Pitman also praised Royal Gazette advertising representative Mr. Ivan Smith for his more than 25 years of service to the newspaper.
