scrap the law which bans gay sex.

Mr. Duane Santucci, who sparked a row with a "gay bashing'' sermon at a friend's funeral last week, turned his attention to the Hon. John Stubbs, yesterday.

Mr. Santucci said allowing homosexuality to "reign'' would be the final straw in the Island's destruction.

He also hit back at letters in The Royal Gazette which attacked his sermon which his friend, who died suffering from AIDS, had asked him to make.

Three people signed the letters "Appalled,'' "Shocked'' and "Loud and Queer''.

Dr. Stubbs will table a motion next year to decriminalise homosexual sex between gay men. The motion is supported by chairman of the Human Rights Commission Canon James Francis.

Mr. Santucci said: "My concern is that Bermuda needs to stop, look and listen. It has come a long way and we got here without the existence of this homosexual act being legalised.

"People have respected Bermuda for years because of our kindness and generosity but, over all of that, we have been respected and looked up to by many countries because of our moral fibre.

"Bermuda stands to be applauded for going so long without letting all the trash and filth fly in on any carrier. But over the last few years the Island has accepted and adopted any way of living -- and that is going to be the final destruction of this Island.

"For us to allow homosexuality to reign in this Island is going to be the final straw.'' Turning to Canon Francis, Mr. Santucci criticised him for "not living or acting to the word of God'' by supporting Dr. Stubbs.

He said: "Any minister, priest or congregation who supports these homosexuals deserves whatever destruction comes their way. Do we really want to legalise such disgraceful acts on this Island?'' "I did not intend to go gay bashing at the funeral. I made statements requested of me in instructions left by the deceased. I did not ruin the funeral.''
