The Senate yesterday passed the Liquefied Petroleum Gases (Handling, Storage, Supply and Transport) Amendment Regulations 1998. The regulations allow for Shell to use three 170,000 gallon, part underground, storage tanks for LPG, instead of the existing structures which are close to private houses.

The move came after an inspection of the site by Shell safety inspectors. Sen.

Terry Lister (PLP) said he was in favour of the move but asked if the larger storage units would, in turn, bring gas prices down in Bermuda.

Senators also agreed to sell surplus land at Mullet Bay Road, St. George's and South Shore Road, Warwick. Sen. Milton Scott (PLP) said he was concerned about the sale of surplus land and said all such space should be held on to for such matters as the use of road widening schemes in the future.

In addition Senators approved the Private Roads (Improvement) Act 1969 (Schedule) Amendment Order 1998.
