The news came during yesterday's monthly arraignment session in the Supreme Court.

Justis Smith will have to wait until next month to find out when he will go on trial for the murder of 17-year-old Rebecca Middleton at Ferry Reach, St.

George's in July 1996.

The Crown is currently appealing a Court of Appeal ruling that banned it from prosecuting Kirk Mundy on the charge of murder as well.

In January, Mundy was indicted on a murder charge via a voluntary bill despite the fact that he had already pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and was serving five years imprisonment for the offence.

The indictment was challenged but a Supreme Court ruling gave the Attorney General the go-ahead to prosecute Mundy for murder.

However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision and said the Attorney General could not proceed with the charge against Mundy.

Now the Attorney General has applied to take the matter to the Privy Council in London.

Yesterday, Smith's lawyer Archibald Warner expressed concerns over lengthy delays in getting his client's case to trial.

Mr. Justice Ward adjourned the matter until August 3.

Dexter Smith, 37, pleaded guilty to four counts of driving an unlicensed vehicle, driving with no lights and driving without third party insurance.

He was stopped by Police in his car on April 21, July 7 and August 21 last year and on February 16 this year.

Officers also said Smith, of Radnor Estate Road, Hamilton Parish, had no insurance on August 21 and drove without lights on February 16.

Smith, a former Sports Editor on The Royal Gazette , was fined $750 for each count of driving an unlicensed vehicle, $300 for not having insurance and $50 for not having lights.

But Magistrate Arthur Hodgson released Minors on $500 bail and instructed him to have no contact with the complainant.
