construction and renovation projects cause classroom closures.

But contrary to radio reports, Warwick Academy's entire junior school will not be closed this week due to construction at the school.

One class each of nine, ten, and eleven-year-olds will get an extra two days of summer holidays while workmen of Bermuda Tech Ltd. clean up the work site.

Headmaster Robert Lennox said he was pleased with the company's work, but had asked that the site be cleared over the weekend, after new classrooms had been completed.

He added: "We're opening the whole school except for three classes. Bermuda Tech has nothing else substantial to do and the school is virtually ready.

They've done a first class job.'' Berkeley Institute head Michelle Gabisi said only the school's fifth year students will get an extension to their summer holiday -- they will return on Friday.

She said building renovations and a problem with stagnant water in a tank had affected the start of the school year.

"We had to change over the system to another tank,'' she said. "It was more than we thought we had to do and we had to be very careful.'' Chief Education officer Joseph Christopher said that the St. Mark's pre-school in Smith's Parish will not open until next Monday due to clean up by the property's owners.

He said renovations had been delayed while builders waited for supplies from overseas.

The Lyceum pre-school in Hamilton Parish will open tomorrow after a construction crew cleans up debris from a summer renovation project.

And the Dellwood Middle School will open on Thursday after a $6 million project to extend and re-furbish the school.

Dellwood students are expected however to attend classes for the next two days, with M1 students going to the Salvation Army Citadel just next door on North Street.

M2 and M3 students must report to the Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church Hall on King Street.
