Speaker: Youth can learn from past
about the struggles of the past to make way for the future, at the fourteenth annual Labour Day banquet tonight.
This will be one of the messages from 24-year-old Rev. Otis Moss III who will be the keynote speaker at the dinner at the Southampton Princess.
Mr. Moss, of Denver, is experienced in youth programming and organisation within the African American community as well as diverse religious faiths. He comes with high credentials as an "inspiring and motivational speaker''.
And he is currently pursuing his PH.D in Religion and Social Change at the University of Denver.
BIU President Mr. Ottiwell Simmons labelled Mr. Moss as "dynamo'' and said he has had "much experience in public life and has the potential of being among America's great speakers''.
Also speaking at the banquet will be Opposition Leader Mr. Frederick Wade who will address the issue of Independence for Bermuda.
The focus for both speakers will be the theme of the Labour Day Full slate of events on Labour Day festivities which is "From Dr. E.F. Gordon to Independence''.
The public is invited to attend the Labour Day festivities which begin with the banquet which begins at 7.30 p.m. (tickets can be purchased from BIU headquarters for $35).
Tomorrow, all are invited to attend the church of their choice. Mr. Moss will be guest preacher at the 11 a.m. service at the St. Paul AME Church.
And on Monday the Joint Labour Day committee invites the public to gather at the Union Square at 9.30 a.m. where they will later march to Bernard's Park where they will hear from Premier the Hon. David Saul, Mr. Wade, Rev. Moss and other trade union leaders an dignitaries.
Food and game stalls will be set up along with amusement for the children and a musical festival performed by local artists throughout the day.
