Stonington has it all
American school would be proud, according to Registrar Sandy Crick. With a track record of individual successes, the College is now working hard to ensure that Bermudians know exactly what can be achieved academically on the Island, at a fraction of the cost of education overseas. "The College has everything and more, as far as I'm concerned, as a two-year programme overseas,'' said Mrs. Crick. "We have a lot of certificate programmes that help people get in positions that are critical here -- the Hotel and Tourism industry is obviously one of our leading, so we have courses to help students get in there if that's what they desire. We also offer courses in plumbing, construction and all those other industries that keep the Island going. "We think that's real important. But I think that a lot of the high school students are just not aware of the College, let alone what (it) has to offer.'' Through its' three academic faculties -- Arts and Science, Hotel and Business Administration and Continuing and Applied Studies -- the College offers eleven Associate degree programmes which are recognised for advanced standing in universities and colleges abroad, and fourteen certificate programmes. "I think our certificate programmes, for the most part, are geared to the Island and what's needed here,'' said Mrs. Crick. A total of 524 full-time students are now enrolled with an additional 61 registered in the Continuing Education programme. Entry requirements for the Associate programme, said Mrs. Crick, demand a Grade Point Average of at least 2.7. And while studying at the College is cost-effective, Mrs. Crick said its advantages extended far beyond that. "I invite students to come and (see) the campus; to sit in on a class. All we ask is that they call in advance so that the necessary arrangements can be made. "We have a lot of different programmes to offer and I think we have an excellent school.
