Suspected teen arsonists may face magistrate by mid-October
The trial of three teens accused of setting a million-dollar fire at Harrington Sound Primary School may be brought forward to the middle of next month.
The Royal Gazette has learned lawyers for the defendants have met with prosecutors and have asked for an October 13 hearing.
In May, three boys, all aged 15, pleaded not guilty to charges of school breaking, arson, and setting fire to paper knowing it would likely start a fire.
The boys, represented by lawyers Saul Froomkin, Delroy Duncan, and Richard Horseman, deny setting the fire at the Smith's Parish school on the night of February 21.
A trial was originally set for November 15 through 25 in Juvenile Court before Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.
Various sources close to the case differ on whether the October 13 date has been set or whether that is the preferred date for the defendants.
The public are banned from Juvenile Court hearings and the media can only report the proceedings with strong restrictions.
