Swimmer fined for drinking and driving

Mewett, 20, of Judkin Lane, Smith's Parish, who will represent Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games in August, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Rex Osborne told the court that Police were called to a single vehicle accident in which Mewett's Suzuki jeep collided with a wall.

"A breathalyser showed that Mewett had 169 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood,'' Sgt. Osborne said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Mewett, who is a student at the University of Tennessee, disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
