Mr. Terence Flood rushed to the rescue when he heard cries for help from the victim's brother.

Mr. Flood, from Devonshire, said that Mr. Tony Bean had collapsed in the taxi on the forecourt of a Hamilton gas station. His brother Mr. Dennis Bean was shouting for help.

At the time 40-year-old Mr. Flood was making his way to his own taxi which was in front of the other vehicle.

"Mr. Bean's brother was in a panic,'' he said. "Nobody else knew what to do, so I went over.

"I had done some CPR while I was working as an orderly on the ambulances. I seemed to be only person who knew what he was doing.

"The man had no pulse and was turning blue. I massaged his heart and managed to get it going again. I kept him alive until the ambulance arrived.'' When the ambulance arrived Mr. Bean was given treatment and taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Flood, a taxi driver for the past 20 years, said: "Everyone at the gas station was congratulating me but I wanted to know how Mr. Bean was. The hospital told me he was holding his own.'' A hospital spokesperson said that Mr. Bean was in a critical condition in the intensive care unit last night.
