Officers found six envelopes and a plastic bag containing plant material in his pockets.

When asked what the material was, 18-year-old Shakir said: "What do you think? It's weed.'' The cannabis weighed 8.75 grams.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Alves $450 and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for one year.
