$3,000 worth of jewellery from a Hamilton store.

Sinclair A. Simmons 51, of Tills Hill pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing five gold chains from Harrington Jewellers valued at $3,000 and a $375 leather jacket from Guys and Dolls clothing store.

Simmons asked that six other charges of stealing from other stores between December and January be taken into consideration.

Prosecuting Sgt. Kenrick James told the court that on December 23 at 3.45 p.m., Simmons went into Harrington Jewellers.

"The shop assistant noticed that Simmons was acting suspiciously but her attention was distracted by another customer,'' Sgt. James said.

"Simmons then walked past her and left and she saw that one of the display cases were open and a number of gold chains were missing.'' Simmons admitted entering the store and stealing the chains. He also said he sold the chains to various people for $300.

Sgt. James added on January 15, Simmons entered Guys and Dolls.

"A shop assistant saw Simmons get clothes and when he asked if the assistant could get him some other items to try, Simmons left the store with a black leather jacket.'' He told Police that he later sold the jacket for $150.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Simmons in custody for sentencing.
