DINERS TO GET A TASTE OF THE PAST EAT Diners to get a taste of the past Diners at a Hamilton restaurant will get a taste of the past on Friday.
They will be able to tuck into a feast fit for a king -- or at least a Russian emperor.
For Romanoff Restaurant in Church Street will be serving a meal first enjoyed by three emperors 126 years ago.
The famous dinner, featuring Russia's Tsar Alexander 11, took place in Paris on June 7, 1867.
Food included fish, chicken, lobster, duck, and asparagus. And it was washed down with Roederer champagne.
Now the France-based House of Roederer is marking the dinner in four restaurants around the world.
And it has picked Romanoff as one of them.
"It is a great honour,'' said owner and manager Mr. Antun Duzevic.
Mr. Duzevic has chosen 50 people to attend the 10-course dinner, costing $200 a head.
"We have also arranged for a string quartet to provide music.'' Diners will get a copy of the original menu as a special memento of the occasion.
The Bristol Cellar has arranged for the champagnes, added Mr. Duzevic.
