The band had left their equipment overnight at the Grotto Bay Hotel after a performance. Thieves apparently gained access to the hotel and bar and removed it.

The estimated $3,000 worth of stolen items included an ESC amplifier, Teac tape deck, Dod mixer, Boss delay system and other musical accessories.

Anyone who may have seen persons acting suspiciously in the area on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, or can assist in locating the stolen goods, is asked to contact Eastern CID.

WEAPONS WARNING CTS A Magistrate yesterday warned that people possessing dangerous weapons would have them destroyed if they appeared in his court.

"This court has to make it clear that it takes a dim view of carrying dangerous weapons,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Keeman Grant, who admitted possessing a four-inch flick knife.

"This type of knife was made only to be a weapon,'' he said and ordered it to be destroyed.

Grant, 24, of Beacon Hill, Sandys Parish, was also fined $500.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said that on March 24, Police officers stopped Grant in a car on Beacon Hill Lane. A search revealed the knife.

Grant told the officers: "I just keep it for me.'' Insp. Duffy said Grant's criminal record stretched back to July, 1986, and included convictions for unlawful wounding, two convictions for wounding Police officers, unlawful assault causing grievous bodily harm, rape, and possessing an offensive weapon.

XL CASH BOOST FNR The Coalition for the Protection of Children received a significant gift from the XL Foundation that will help bring it closer to its goal of raising almost $200,000 this year.

The money will be used for programmes for families and children. It will also help fund therapy, effective parenting programmes, and help to extend the coalitions peer mediation programme.

A spokesperson for the Coalition said: "We are very grateful for this grant which represents a second year commitment from XL.

"It demonstrates their commitment to the rights of children to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.'' DRUGS SEIZURE CRM Four people have been arrested following a drug seizure in Hamilton Parish this week, Police reported yesterday.

Narcotics Police seized a "substantial quantity'' of plant material believed to be cannabis.

ROAD CLOSURE TFC North Shore Road in Flatts will be closed between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

The closure was needed for re-surfacing work between St. James Court and the Middle Road junction. Buses would still be allowed through.

Drivers going east along North Shore Road can detour along Store Hill.

Those going west can divert to Middle Road.

CASTING CALL GVT Teenagers who can sing, dance or act can strut their stuff at the upcoming annual summer road show.

This year's production which is directed and produced by Ms Pat Pogson is the tenth consecutive year of the popular road show.

It provides free family entertainment on Thursday nights throughout July.

Talented teens are asked to register now at the Department of Youths, Sport and Recreation. Stage assistance is also required.

KITE FLIGHT CLB The Bermuda Society in London made Bermudians feel at home on Good Friday with their own kite party.

Deputy Governor Mr. John Kelly reported that 25 young Bermudians in London were able to celebrate Good Friday in the Bermuda way.

Several friends were also invited to take part in the day's activities -- but it is not known if they were treated to hot cross buns and fish cakes.
