morning rush hour for a trial period beginning March 3, it was revealed yesterday.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt said the move was prompted by a recommendation from the Corporation's Docks Advisory Board in response to pleas from local businesses.

Mr. Sherratt said truckers were previously not allowed to operate between 8 a.m. and 9.15 a.m., so they were sitting around during that time waiting to work.

It also affected the productivity of warehouses around the Island -- especially early on in the week when they were waiting for containers.

The Corporation had consulted with the Ministry of Transport which had agreed to the trial, continued Mr. Sherratt, and now the movements of the trucks off the docks would be closely monitored.

He said only about nine trucks were expected to move off the dock within the time frame -- "not a huge amount''.

Transport Minister Wayne Furbert said that if there were any problems during the trial period then the system would revert back with truckers banned from the roads during rush hours.
