Molly Burgess said yesterday.

She said striking workers were upset about maids being sent to the hotel by a firm owned by United Bermuda Party backbencher Mrs. Grace Bell, and by the business involvement of Government MPs.

"The staff are very upset about that,'' said the Bermuda Industrial Union general secretary. "It seems to be becoming a UBP thing.'' Guests said room-cleaning was a service badly hit by the dispute.

Mrs. Bell, owner of Houseprouds domestic cleaning firm, said three part-time maids were sent to Grotto Bay yesterday morning and would work there until the dispute ended.

"We're also a placement agency,'' she said. "We got a call on Monday for some help and we got in contact with three of the ladies on our books. They're not employees.

"The UBP's not involved -- we're a domestic service. It's nothing to do with the party.'' Mr. Ernest DeCouto, deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, is a Grotto Bay director. He visited the dispute scene yesterday.

Transport Minister the Hon. Ralph Marshall is also on the board of directors.

UBP chairman Dr. James King is another shareholder.
