A Government Senator is set to make a bid for a seat in the House of Assembly.

Sen. Angelita Fox, a Cable & Wireless executive, will be officially adopted for the Hamilton East constituency at a meeting tonight.

Sen. Fox -- appointed to Senate last year after the resignation of Sen. Gary Pitman, now an MP and Sen. Noela Haycock -- will take on the sitting PLP duo of Renee Webb and Derrick Burgess.

She said last night: "I'm certainly looking forward to the challenge -- the real challenge for me is to be an advocate for Hamilton East and keep the national interest in perspective as well.'' At the February by-election caused by the resignation of one-time PLP MP Rev.

Trevor Woolridge, Bermuda Industrial Union leader Derrick Burgess gave United Bermuda Party candidate Francis Furbert a bloody nose.

Although comparision is difficult because of Bermuda's two-seat constituencies, Mr. Burgess took 65.5 percent of the vote compared to Mr.

Furbert's 34.5 percent -- massively increasing the majority held by Mr.

Woolridge.

But Sen. Fox said she was confident she could snatch a seat back in Hamilton East, which has swung back and forth between both main parties and the National Liberal Party in recent elections.

She added: "By-elections are different from General Elections -- in the 1993 General Election, the UBP had a good showing.

"And what is important to remember about Hamilton East and West is that they vote the candidate.

"If there is a strong showing and concern for the issues and the people of Hamilton East in terms of their values and interests, they will vote you as a candidate.'' Sen. Fox has only months of experience in politics -- but said she would use that to her advantage.

She added: "I don't think it's a PLP stronghold -- there is always room for change and that's what I'm about. I'm a new person on the block.'' And she said: "The philosophy of the UBP Government is something I chose to dedicate myself to and specifically to the leader and what she refers to as equal opportunities for all Bermudians.

"That is what sparked off my involvement with the United Bermuda Party.'' Sen. Fox said she felt "very strongly'' over taxation and how the PLP would pay for Government if elected.

She said: "I feel from my perspective these issues are not something the PLP openly speaks about or speaks with one voice about.

"The UBP is of one voice on this -- taxes, with some exceptions in revenue taxes on monopolies or duopolies, are levied on individual expenditure and consumption as opposed to individual income or profits.'' SENATE SEN
