VISITOR UNAWARE OF DRUGS LAWS CTS A 29-year-old American visitor was fined $600 yesterday at Magistrates' Court for possessing cannabis.

Vincent Buquicchio, from New York, was fined a further $100 for having cigarette papers to smoke the drug.

Prosecuting Sgt. Kenrick James said Customs officers found 5.6 grams of cannabis in Buquicchio's underwear when he arrived at the Airport last Monday.

They also found four packages of cigarette papers.

Ms Victoria Pearman, defending, said Buquicchio, who admitted the charges, wanted to apologise to the court.

"He was not fully cognizant of the drug laws here,'' she added.

SAILOR RECOVERING HOS A 38-year-old seaman is recovering in hospital after being airlifted to Bermuda from a tanker.

The man was taken off the Panamanian vessel Jasmine B on Thursday evening suffering shock from internal injuries, Harbour Radio said.

A spokeswoman at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital said he was not seriously ill and was being cared for on a general ward.

SHOPLIFTER FINED CTS A woman went shoplifting after mixing with the wrong kind of people, it was claimed at Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Beverley Eileen Smith was under severe "personal pressure'', her lawyer Ms Victoria Pearman said.

"She got involved in less than desirable company, and she is making an effort to remove herself from that environment,'' she said.

Prosecuting Sgt. Kenrick James said Smith, 38, of Judkin Lane, Smith's Parish, stole two cartons of cigarettes, worth $65.98, from Lindo's Market in Devonshire on May 20.

CAMERA FOUND POL Police are looking for the owner of a camera stolen from a white car outside Coral Beach Club on Tuesday.

The black Zuiko camera is a 38-millimetre automatic Olympus and was stolen from the car's glove compartment, Police said yesterday.
