Island visitor this week.

Former Royal Navy Lieutenant Dudley Warren was based at Admiralty House at the end of the Second World War more than 50 years ago.

And as a special treat his two daughters arranged for a return trip to Bermuda for the 85-year-old.

Mr. Warren acted as secretary to the chief of staff when he arrived on the Island in 1944.

But his real love was sport and, with the war winding down, he became the Navy's sports officer, playing in the Bermuda Cup Final in 1945.

Mr. Warren returned to the UK in 1946 and settled in Sussex where he became a bank manager. This is his first visit back to Bermuda.

"It's certainly changed a lot since I was last here,'' he said.

"Back in 1946 we didn't have cars and everybody got around on bikes. Also blacks and whites didn't mix -- we weren't allowed to. I'm glad to see that that's changed.

"But the weather is just as good as it used to be and the people are certainly just as friendly. It's been lovely to come back and have a look around again.''
