Whisky thief hid in taxi

Ricardo Tucker, 30, of Reid Street, Hamilton, pleaded guilty to stealing six bottles of scotch whisky from the A-1 Supermarket in Smith's on October 28 last year.
Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis that supermarket staff saw Tucker stuff the six bottles, worth $180.30, into a duffel bag.
The manager chased him out of the shop. Police later found Tucker hiding in the rear of a taxi on Middle Road.
Tucker told Police he had no money and no intention of paying for the liquor.
Mr. Francis fined Tucker $400.
