Whitney celebrates new hall
ceremony at Whitney Institute's new Assembly Hall? Yesterday, Cabinet Ministers and staff watched as 16-year-old Dathan Byrd and Euline Hart -- the head boy and girl -- broke with tradition by pouring Coke on the roof.
Also present were principal Mrs. Gail Graham, contractors DeCosta Construction, and the hall's designer Mr. Bob Winter, from Works & Engineering.
Whitney students went on to hand over time capsules to DeCosta, which are to be opened in 2020.
In them, are essays, photographs of classes, a Royal Gazette profile of Euline Hart, a survey of what people like best today, and several videos of school activities.
A wall plaque will tell future Whitney students where to find the capsules.
Trustees of the Whitney Educational Trust, who own the school, have handed over a time capsule as well.
Their capsule contains a history of the long wait for the hall, written by retired principal Mr. Ronald Cripps Brown.
