Three vehicles and 11 firefighters responded to the blaze, which apparently started when a spark from a stove element spread through the kitchen of the home on Southcote Avenue. "It might have been faulty,'' Fire Services said of the element.

The woman, who was overcome by smoke, required resuscitation at the scene. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.

Burned in the fire were a stove, a microwave oven and some kitchen cabinets, with reported smoke and heat damage throughout the house. Total damage was estimated at $10,000.

A response delay of several minutes was also reported because the person who called the fire in did not distinguish between Southcote Road and Southcourt Avenue.
