face and wept in Magistrates' Court yesterday as she heard how the six- to eight-inch kitchen knife became embedded in the child's back.

Venita Sandra Brown, 36, of Wellington Back Road, St. George's yesterday pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said the incident took place on August 15 while the defendant and victim were preparing food together in the defendant's kitchen.

Brown threw the knife at the child when she discovered he had added too much water to a mixture.

Realising what she had done, she removed the knife and dialled 911. The boy received five sutures at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was detained overnight.

Sgt. Grant said Brown, who has no similar previous convictions, admitted she threw the knife in a fit of anger. She has since displayed great remorse for the act and is attending a psychiatric outpatients clinic, he said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis ordered a psychiatric report and bail of $500.

The charge is brought by the Commissioner of Police on behalf of the boy who attends Victor Scott School. The child presently resides with his father who was living elsewhere at the time of the incident.
