Adderley named as UBP candidate for Pembroke West

Former United Bermuda Party MP Erwin Adderley is set for a return to politics in the Pembroke West seat he wanted at the last General Election.

The one-time Opposition Deputy Leader and Shadow Minister is due to be unveiled as the UBP candidate for Constituency 19 in a press conference this morning.

It will line him up for a likely head-to-head with former UBP MP Shawn Crockwell, who has said he intends to fight for that seat for Bermuda Democratic Alliance at the next election.

Both men had wanted to run for the UBP in Pembroke West in 2007 — with Mr. Crockwell getting the nod from the party and later beating the Progressive Labour Party's Walton Brown at the polls.

Mr. Adderley, a former civil servant, first entered the House of Assembly as the MP for Pembroke West at a by-election in 1997, when the UBP were still in power.

He had a spell as Opposition Deputy Leader and served as Shadow Works and Engineering Minister and Shadow Transport Minister before being switched to Pembroke West Central for the 2003 election, where he lost to Neletha Butterfield of the PLP.
