The $3,500 pamphlet entitled "Independence: An Asset or a Liability?'' was produced and paid for by Bermudians for Continued Stability.

The group -- the brainchild of historian Mrs. Joyce Hall -- has placed an advertisement in the daily newspaper each day since June 30. And Mrs. Hall said new ads would continue to appear right up to August 15.

"All of these little messages are to make people think, rather than telling them what to do,'' said Mrs. Hall, who is active in the National Trust.

The pamphlet "is telling the story in a straightforward way in simple language which anybody can understand'', she said.

While Mrs. Hall wrote it, among those she consulted with were former Transport Minister the Hon. Ralph Marshall, former Education Minister Mrs. Gloria McPhee, and businessman Mr. Hugh Davidson.

"I can not see one single solitary asset to Independence for Bermuda.'' Bermudians for Continued Stability is also producing anti-Independence spots on the two local radio stations.

Bermudians for Continued Stability is not a group which has members, Mrs. Hall said. But more than 200 people had supported its efforts through donations of cash and assistance.

She described BCS as "a biracial collection of grassroots common sense people who care'' about Bermuda's future.
