Asbestos found in school kitchen
Air quality at an east end school is being tested after asbestos was found in the ceiling of the school's kitchen.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Commissioner of Education announced that asbestos had been found inside Clearwater Middle School during preparations for the coming school year.
Senior officials from the Department of Education are expected to visit the school on Monday, with the results of air quality tests to follow soon after.
Despite the discovery, a spokesman for the Ministry of education said that the school's Fall semester is expected to begin on schedule.
"Please be assured that the Department of Education is committed to ensuring that Clearwater Middle School is a healthy environment for all of it's occupants," the spokesman said.
"At this point, the school will be opening on September 8 and should there be any change, an announcement will be made."
