Bank launches second Easter food drive

Employees also were able to raise $4,355 in cash via two denim days that went to purchase additional food items

Butterfield Bank launched its second annual Easter food drive helping less fortunate families be able to enjoy the holiday.

The food was donated by Butterfield employees and enough canned, boxed and bottled items were able to fill 60 large bins and perma-pack boxed.

The food will go to help 200 families.

An additional $4,355 was raised by employees by two denim days which went to food items including chickens for Easter dinner.

Butterfield's President & CEO, Brad Kopp, said he was pleased Butterfield employees came forward yet again to support this worthy cause.

"We are pleased to announce the return of a very successful Butterfield community initiative, the Easter Food Drive. As Bermuda's local bank, it's important that we continue to give back to the community that has supported us for 152 years.

"Volunteerism is an important tradition at the Bank, one that we can all be immensely proud of. Our food drive is once again targeting a segment of the community that is most in need and, as was the case last year, we will work with The Salvation Army and Hands of Love to distribute the food collected."

Major Doug Lewis of the Salvation Army was pleased with the initiative and said: "More families are becoming what we call 'working poor'. When one spouse is terminated or laid off and one income is left in the household to pay all the bills, it can be hard. So something like this, it's perfect."
